With strong influences in various music genres such as Afro-Cuban, funk, blues, bolero, and Mexican folkloric music,Ruben Amaro, extends his composition into Latin Rock, where there's a wider acceptance of artistic freedom.  The brothersHugo Amaro, and Arturo Amaro with Ruben, founded the band in the year 1998.  They identify the band's name with their roots and culture as they name the band, ZAMANDOQUE TARAHUM.

"Zamandoque" is the name of a plant from the Agave family.  The Amaro’s great grandparents' ranch in Mexico holds the same name near the small town of Cerritos S.L.P., Mexico.  "El Terrero" Chihuahua (north Mexico) is birthplace of Ruben. In honor of that land and its peoples, half of the word from TARAHUMARA (Raramuri) as in the end the name is Zamandoque Tarahùm

As a five piece band which includes a percussionist, Zamandoque Tarahum has further perfection their complex fusionist style of various genres of music that always have a Latin sound as a base.  This last line up solidified the band and with their obvious versatility within various styles of music, the quintet has developed an incomparable chemistry that has made them one of the most well known Latin Rock bands in Chicago.

This music is heavily inspired on the socioeconomic struggles of the Latinos and poverty ridden people of all races.  The strong inclination towards traditional and folkloric Mexican music, has earned Zamandoque enough respect and fan base to be given a sponsorship from the Budweiser Beer Company under their well known TRUE MUSIC program between the years of 2003 – 2005, also to share the stage House of Blues with one of México’s big numbers, Maldita Vencindad.  That night Zamandoque Tarahùm played an emotional set inspired by the support of their local crowd. This type of event is not limited to the House of Blues but also performing in venues such as The METRO, Double Door, Congress Theater, the Roxy (Hollywood, CA), but also with Latin-American acts such as Plastilina Mosh, Victimas del Dr. Cerebro, Banda Bostik, Control Machete, Circo, Rabanes, Kinky, Arturo Meza, Leticia Servin, & Maria Fatal from Los Angeles, CA.

The impact of their music which Zamandoque Tarahùm has earned them travel gigs in  Los Angeles, Anaheim, CA; Houston, Dallas, El Paso, TX; Minneapolis, St. Paul, MN; Detroit, Michigan City, MI; and Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua México!  Their energetic fusion, and spirited shows, along with their musical passion, is left with audiences. This also has been the case through the radio waves, television, and throughout hundreds of live shows!

This love for the music is reflected in a 7 song CD (2000) Dos Espiritus (Two Spirits), and their full length CD El Cantico de Zamantara (Song of Zamantara).  In October 2003, movie director, Tadeo Garcia, featured in his full length independent film, "On the down Low", three ofZamandoque Tarahùm songs one from EKIZ, written by Ruben. This film has had considerable success in many film festivals at international and intercontinental level, where audiences always raise as a topic the music of Zamandoque Tarahùm!

Zamandoque Tarahùm, motivated by their local success, was on the bring of a new CD release in 2010.  This was put on hold when musicians left the band.  RA Amaro did release an album that he was forced to produced along with Hugo Amaro titled, "Con Mi Luna".  Only available digitally. Now Zamandoque Tarahum rests for good... or is it for good?
